Stop Rising Damp at the Source — Permanent Solutions That Last

Is your home showing signs of peeling paint, bubbling plaster, or a persistent musty smell near the floorboards? These aren’t just cosmetic issues—they are the hallmarks of Rising Damp.

At SuperiorWaterproofing, we provide permanent, scientifically backed solutions to stop moisture in its tracks. Serving Southeast Queensland and beyond, we combine industry-leading technology with decades of local expertise to keep your home dry, safe, and value-protected.

Advanced Westox Damp-Proofing System

We use the Westox System—a globally trusted solution designed to permanently stop rising damp in masonry walls and concrete structures.

1. Westox Chemical Injection DPC

The primary treatment for rising damp is the creation of a new Damp Proof Course (DPC). Unlike older methods that required physically cutting out bricks, Westox uses a low-pressure injection system

2. Westox Cocoon (Desalination Poultice)

One of the most unique parts of the Westox system is the Cocoon. Even after the moisture is stopped, the salts left behind (hygroscopic salts) will continue to attract moisture from the air, causing paint to peel and plaster to crumble.

3. Westox Salt Retarder

When it comes time to re-plaster the treated walls, we uses a specific Salt Retarder additive in the render. It acts as a secondary defense, preventing any residual salts from migrating to the surface of the new plaster during the final drying phase.

Our Rising Damp Treatment Process

1. Comprehensive Diagnostic Inspection
On-site evaluation to confirm the issue is indeed rising damp. Experts use specialized tools to assess the severity.

2. Tailored Remediation Planning
Selecting the most effective method for the specific structure, such as: Chemical DPC Injection, Physical Barriers & Negative-Side Treatments

3. Preparation and Salt Removal
Rising damp often leaves behind “hygroscopic salts” that continue to attract moisture.

4. Professional Application
The core treatment is applied by licensed technicians: Injection: Chemicals are injected under pressure or via gravity into pre-drilled holes to create a continuous water-repellent barrier. Membrane Application: For floors or below-ground walls, liquid or sheet membranes may be applied to stop hydrostatic pressure. Crack Repair: If structural cracks are present, they use epoxy or polyurethane injection to seal them.

5. Restoration and Finishing
To ensure a long-lasting aesthetic result, the area is restored with specialized materials

Frequently Asked Questions!

Is rising damp common in Brisbane and the Gold Coast?
Yes. Due to high humidity, heavy seasonal rainfall, and older housing stock (like Queenslanders on brick piers), rising damp is a frequent issue in Southeast Queensland.
Can rising damp affect my health?
Yes. Persistent dampness encourages the growth of black mold and dust mites, which are known triggers for asthma, allergies, and other respiratory conditions.
Will rising damp cause structural damage?
Over time, yes. It can rot floor joists, weaken the mortar holding your bricks together, and cause “spalling,” where the face of the brick begins to crumble and fall away.
How long will the treatment last?
When applied correctly using the Westox system, a chemical DPC is designed to last the lifetime of the mortar—often 20 years or more.
What are the most common signs of rising damp?
Look for a visible “tide mark” on the wall, peeling wallpaper, bubbling paint, crumbling mortar, and a white powdery substance known as efflorescence (salts).
Does rising damp devalue my property?
Significantly. Most building inspectors will flag rising damp in a pre-purchase report, which can lead to buyers pulling out or demanding a massive reduction in the sale price.
What is a "Damp Proof Course" (DPC)?

A DPC is a horizontal barrier built into a wall to stop water rising. Older homes used slate or bitumen, which can crack over time. Modern treatments involve “injecting” a new chemical DPC.

How does chemical injection work?
We drill small, strategic holes into the mortar course and inject a high-performance Silane/Siloxane cream. This cream spreads and cures to create a permanent, water-repellent barrier inside the wall.
How long does the treatment take?

A typical room takes 1–2 days for the injection and salt treatment. If re-plastering is required, there is an additional period for the new render to dry before you can paint.
